At The Pelorus Foundation, we believe that travel can have a positive impact on the planet. However, there is an elephant in the room: with travel comes CO2 emissions.
Emissions which need to be responsibly addressed.
Through partnering with leading carbon removal organisations, The Pelorus Foundation have created a Climate Investment Fund to compensate for tourism’s carbon footprint.
Inspired by a desire to take a hands-on approach to carbon emissions, the Fund creates sustainable partnerships directly with the projects on the ground – supporting communities on the front line of the climate crisis, and investing in the technology which is pioneering carbon removal. By purchasing our credits, environmentally conscious individuals and businesses can address their travel emissions responsibly.
“Accounting for over 10% of global GDP and supporting more than one in ten jobs worldwide in 2019, the Travel & Tourism sector has been a key global driver of economic prosperity and employment opportunities for decades. In many countries around the world, tourism presents one of the most important sources of economic income. What’s more, given the extent and complexity of the Travel & Tourism value chain and its strong interlinkages with other industries, the sector has both a responsibility and significant potential to be a catalyst for profound system change.”
1 MEASURE
We use Greenly’s bespoke carbon accounting platform to accurately and independently measure the carbon footprint of every trip. Greenly’s calculations strictly follow the guidelines of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol to provide an objective evaluation of travel emissions.
All travel choices should be considered carefully to ensure lower emission options are prioritised. Measuring and understanding travel emissions is the first step towards making more sustainable travel choices – and implementing ambitious reduction targets.
Solutions to climate change already exist. It’s simply a matter of investing in them through our portfolio. Following The Oxford Offsetting Principles, our Climate Investment Fund is turning the tide on traditional offsets. By capitalising on the power of nature, empowering the communities on the front line, and investing in novel technology urgently needed to reverse climate change, we are on a mission to turn travel into a truly powerful driver of positive action.
“The immense restorative power of nature itself is one of the most cost-effective ways to tackle climate change, yet there is also an urgent need to invest in novel technology pioneering new methods needed to reverse climate change. Our new Climate Investment Portfolio enables both. Through the Fund we are able to powerfully promote some of the world’s leading carbon removal projects to individuals with the capacity to make significant change to the future of our planet. And whilst we recognise that our Climate Investment Fund will not end climate change, it is a measure we take to reduce our impact on the environment, and ensure travel is a force of good.”
The portfolio projects, located all over the world, combine nature and technology-based solutions to remove carbon from the atmosphere.
